I was told today by someone at my bank that I will not be closing on Wednesday. It hit hard because I was really hoping to take care of all of this before I go back home this weekend.
I was then told that the seller is going to get back with me to let me know when exactly the short sale final approval will be done and that we hope maybe she can wrap it up by Wednesday. Well, since I am still getting mixed messages, I guess the only way to know if I am going to close on Wednesday at this point is to wait until Wednesday and see if it happens. I am preparing myself since it seems the chances of closing are slim.
Today I went and signed for my home owners insurance. I am now the owner of house insurance and do not own a house! :p
Tomorrow I have plans to meet with my realtor and she is letting me in the house so I can take some measurements and check some things out in it. I'm taking some friends to go look at the house with me since they haven't got to see it yet.
It's so hard to just sit back and not be able to move in it.

Confusion
I got a call from my bank telling me I have an appointment this coming Wednesday (Sept 30th) at 11:00 to close on my house. I also got a call from my Realtor saying they still don't know when the sellers end will be done with all their paperwork and that they are having a problem with the title from the Estate. She said I may have to file an extension and if I want to stay locked into my interest rate, I will have to pay a fee after the 30th. I must go back to Atlanta so I wouldn't be back until the end of October which would mean I would need abt a 30 day extension which would cost around $500.00.
So yes, I'm a little confused with everyone telling me so many different things. I am still going to hope for the closing to go through on the 30th of this month.
Monday I have to go down and sign papers for my home owners insurance.
Hardwood floors? I have no idea what I am going to do about those.... I was hoping they would be down already before I got back from Atlanta with all my things, this may not be in the cards though.
I will keep you posted!

Another waiting post.
Yes, I am still waiting to hear something back from the Short Sale Processor. I assume I am still sitting at the bottom of her stack of papers.
My bank I was getting the mortgage through, sold it to another bank, so now I guess I will be paying my mortgage payments to them instead. I have been told this is quite common.
Today I went back out looking for hardwood floors. I am just still not finding anything. We went to 3 places today over in Galax, Virginia. The prices are fabulous, but I'm not impressed with the floors for some reason. The 3rd place we went to, they didn't have any floor samples of what I want, but said I could special order some. He is going to call me in the morning with pricing on 3.25 inch wood, walnut finish, low gloss.
Here is a little swatch sample of the color, it looks much darker on the computer than in person.

Oh no!!
I get a message today from my Realtor saying it could take another month to close on my house!!! What the... !!!! Something about my papers being put in line for final approval and that could take up to 4 weeks. Wait, no no, I have already been waiting a month, now another month? What is this final approval all about? How many times can it be approved? What is going on here?
Well, anyway... the documents I have say closing date is Sept 30 or before. I still must go back to Atlanta the first week of October to start packing, getting Uhaul reserved, taking care of everything back there before my lease is up. I may have a Uhaul full of furniture and NO house to put my stuff in when I get here. The owners did say if it came down to it, I could store my things in the house until we actually close on it. Now my hardwood floors won't be in before I move my stuff in, though. Ho hum
I didn't know I was signing up for all this stress just to buy a house.
(I also had a bad dream about my new house last night, hmmm.)

Hopefully next week!
I spoke to my realtor and the bank and they said they think I should close on the house next week. Oh thank goodness. Waiting is the absolute hardest part of this whole process! I do wish I had them do the appraisal when the inspection was done, it would have made this go a little faster. *Mental note*: Multi-task when buying a house, don't do things in consecutive order.
_______
I've been looking for hardwood flooring and it is much harder than I thought it was going to be. I'm looking for a certain color and look in a certain price range, so far no luck. I have found some beautiful hardwood, but it was out of my price range. I can't get over how expensive they are quoting me for installation, that almost cost as much as the hardwood itself! Wow
If anyone has had hardwood floors installed, please give me some pointers, I need them!
I'm looking for solid wood, in a medium brown with no red tones. I want it distressed looking and hard enough to hold up to the abuse of a 72 pound dog. I was thinking the wood that is distressed would be better for scratches, that way, maybe it looks like the scratches from my dog look like they belong in it, ha!
I also seem to like the 4 and 5 inch wide planks over the slimmer 2 inch ones. I don't mind the slimmer ones, if I can find it in the color and distressing that I'm looking for. I've been to Lowe's and 2 privately owned stores, I may continue my search tomorrow and this weekend. The search continues...

This is sort of what I'm looking for to give an idea.

Update on home and some decor
My closing date says September 30th or sooner. I was hoping it would be sooner, but it seems they are still having to do a lot more than I realized. I am waiting for the appraisal to go through and some title work to be done. My realtor told me the other end (sellers) are also wanting this to go as quickly as possible. I still have to travel back to Atlanta, pack all of my things, reserve a U-haul truck and make sure I am out of my apt before my lease is up. I have heard that short sales can take up to 3 months, but with both of us wanting this to close quickly, hopefully it will only be the usual 30 days it takes to close.
___________
In the mean time, all I can do is dream of how I am going to fix up my home. Wallpaper is making a come back, so I was thinking, maybe I could do something in my bathroom with wallpaper. Here are some cute pics I found where the wallpaper looks really nice in a modern way.

What do you think?
Wallpaper?
Yay or nay?

...and waiting....
There is nothing to do on my house yet, but wait. I did, however, go looking at hardwood flooring this weekend to get an idea of what I want. I found some beautiful flooring at one place, but they are a bit pricey, so I am still going to shop around.

I got this book this weekend. I don't want to end up with a house full of things I really don't need, so for my new home, I'm going to try to be as minimalist as possible... (I said I was just going to try).
Also want my new home to be as green as possible, so I'm going with the no VOC paints and hoping to get eco-friendly flooring. I'm not going to gut anything in the house and just try to work with what the house already has as much as I possibly can. For example, I have seen them on tv rip out cast iron bathtubs because it was a little stained and chipped for a new fancy *modern* tub. My cast iron tub in this home is chipped, but it's a keeper for me. I just don't think they make quality things like this anymore and I want to salvage all I can in this home.
I can't wait to read this book. Got it from Simple Living. Thanks Wanda!

Moving along...
I got some good news back from my realtor. She said the owners have fixed all of the things wrong with the house and are waiting for the hot water heater to be delivered. I will contact the bank today and see how things are going and hopefully they can give me an approximate date when they will have all the paperwork finished. This is so exciting. I can't stop thinking of how I'm going to fix the place up, so here are some ideas I have...
I want to paint the living room all white. I love the crisp white and chocolate browns together. I found some pictures online that I love. (Seems like I found this one on Apartment Therapy) This one has a fireplace similar to mine. I had thought of painting my fireplace white, but I think I like the rustic look of the natural brick instead, so I may just keep it the way it is. My dad said he would build me a mantle out of walnut. That turquoise chandelier looks great, too, but I don't want an exact replica of the room.

In the picture below, it has the woodwork on the walls like my living room, so I will paint mine white the way this one looks. A very rustic feel to it, which I love.

The photo below is my living room, I want to get some custom made shelving put on the wall to the left of the fireplace. Paint walls white, replace carpet with hardwood flooring, put a mantle on fireplace, do something about the flashy brass cover, add all my furniture and photos on walls and viola, the room is transformed. :)

Still waiting...
I can't stop driving by my new place, ha! I took a friend over to look at it this weekend and I noticed the owners fixed the latch door on the patio already. That is good that they are trying to take care of things. I still haven't heard word back if they are going to pay for the water heater or not.
Here is the sign out in front of my soon to be home.

Termite Inspection
The termite inspection has been done. No termites! Everything is rolling along. One more week to find out if the bank will have all my paperwork processed.
The hot water heater was damaged, so we are trying to see if the owners will pay for that. I will be posting regularly as things progress, so come back again for more updates.
I took this photo yesterday while I was out for a little walk. That is the Blueridge mountains.

Radon Tests Finished
The Radon Test results came back today. They are in the safe range, so that is a big sigh of relief. Had the radon tests come back over 4.0, I would have had to have a ventilation system put into the home which would have cost over a thousand dollars.
The termite inspection has been scheduled and now we wait to find out those results. So far, everything is running smoothly.
I had to go sign a bunch of papers at the bank today and they told me the bank should have everything wrapped up by the week of Sept 14th.
So far it looks as though the little ranch house will soon be my home sweet home.

(Pic above is not mine of course, just thought it looked inviting.)
