Day 21
I'm just not sure I am loving it.
I'm not crazy about the blue color I used and I still want to get the glass inserts. I would love to distress it some, to make it look a little rustic. It looks too frilly or something. hmmm I know, I don't usually get down on my refinishing jobs, but this one I just feel I could do better. I don't even love the new hardware I got for it. Oh my.

It's not horrible, I like it and all. I almost have my guest room pulled together. As soon as I find a desk, I can put my other white desk in here and the room will be done for the most part.
I'm going to put a tv in the armoire. It has extra shelves for more storage in it besides the tv, so I'll probably also put some blankets and sheets in it, too. I found a wonderful basket for the wall at an antique store and already put it on the wall in this room. I'll post pics of it in a bit.

Its beautiful, but I agree with you; I think it needs a little distressing.
It looks awesome!! If you're not feeling, though, maybe making it a little bit of a darker blue and then distressing it? Just a suggestion.
hmmmmm......I like how you chopped off the molding on top. Maybe try to dry brush and wipe off some dark gray?
I think it would look great with a crackled finish.
I think adding some detailing - maybe distressing? - or something to it would really make it stand out. I like it, but it does seem a little... plain. It blends a little too much with the wall color, I think. Don't get me wrong, it's still 50x better than the before - and that blue is really pretty! - but I agree with you that it needs... something.

I've seen furniture in a similar blue color with a brown/black glaze over it that looks really nice. I think that would probably do the trick. You chose a great color...love the piece!
I think it's beautiful! I love all your refinished works! Is it possible to know what kind of brush or roller you use? All of your paint jobs have such beautiful, smooth, luscious looks.... I just love them! I have a few pieces of furnitures I'd like to redo, but I've never done this before. It would be SO helpful to get some sort of tutorials on refinishing furnitures! Thanks you and I enjoy reading your blogs very much!
All I do is slap a couple of coats of paint on it really. I use Olmypic paint the most because it doesn't have any odor at all. I primed it with Olympic primer in white, then put 2 coats of the color Valspar Seaside Villa in Olympic paint on it. I used a 2.5 inch paintbrush by Wooster. Purdy paintbrushes are really good quality, too. I always use a soft good quality paintbrush.
If it has a surface that I don't want scratched up, I will put a topcoat of polycrylic on the top surface such as a table or dresser.
I think it's great! A punch of color! I painted a cabinet blue too and was unsure at first but now it's one of my favorite pieces in my home.

Maybe a little distressing and glazing would do the trick. I think you've got the beginnings of a beautiful piece of furniture, just need to tweak it a little bit. And I think the hardware looks great!

I think the light blue color you chose is very fresh! More interesting than basic white. Plus, taking off that top part was a big help. I agree, it still looks a little "frilly," but I do think that some type of glass inserts would modernize it more. Still looks great!
I think distressing it would make it look a little more weathered and fit in with what I think you are picturing in your head. I love the color (but to be honest, I loved it in the condition you bought it it! LOL!) The color adds a nice pop to the room :)

Hi Jolie! I think it looks AMAZING!!! I love the color AND the fabric...But this is your home & you gotta make the final call...maybe you should live with it for just a little while longer to make sure whatever changes you make next(if thats what you decide)are ones your really gonna love!If your not 100% loving it it will always drive you crazy!! I've changed the look of a piece of furniture 5 times in 1 month before!
I agree, I'm going to live with it for 2 or 3 weeks and just see how I like it. It may grow on me, but at the current moment I'm wanting to redo the whole thing! lol
I see that you removed the top, scrolled, decorative part of the armoire, and I completely approve! But I think now the piece is off balance. The rest of the armoire has lovely graceful scrolls on the doors, the feet and the bottom board part, and the top looks too plain and kind of naked. I think the lines of the armoire would be greatly improved with putting some crown molding around the top. It would leave the piece with the flat top that you prefer and you could still store items on top, but it would restore balance to the piece.
